The National Archaeological Museum (National Museum of Archeology) is located near the main gate of Valletta, to the left of the street, the building" Oberzh de Provence »(Auberge de Provence), which was built in the XVI century and serves as a "dormitory" for the knights of Provence, who had no shelter.
This is currently the only building of its kind open to the public. All the other old buildings occupied by government agencies, and access to them is closed.
At the time of British rule in Malta was placed here men's club, where gentlemen come gossip over coffee about this and that.

The museum presents an extended exposition of the Maltese archaeological, historical and art (prehistoric pottery pieces, stone tools and ornaments).
The museum tells the story of the Neolithic and late Neolithic period, about the culture of the Bronze Age, about the Phoenicians, who opened the Maltese Islands, on the Punic period in the history of the Maltese archipelago.
In addition, the museum can see a statue of the famous Venus of Malta, discovered during excavations in the Ggantija on the island of Gozo, and the sculpture of the Sleeping Maiden, found in Hypogeum.
