Is it possible to permanently "kill" tooth decay? Caries (from Lat. caries - decay) - is tooth decay caused by the dissolution of its constituent mineral acidic medium formed while "digesting" of carbohydrates in the mouth. Scientists believe that the main cause of this disease is vital functions of the bacteria Streptococcus mutans, which turns the whole of dietary sugar into lactic acid, as time and erodes tooth enamel. Recently they were able to modify the DNA of the bacteria so that it has ceased to produce acid, a gel, of which it was introduced, using a single application to the teeth "kill" tooth forever. Experiments on animals have shown that the modified bacteria in the mouth completely replaces natural. And since it is absolutely harmless, its clinical trials will begin later this year. 24.12.2006
